Bloodring
Faith Hunter
The fantasy novel “Bloodring” was written by Faith Hunter and published in 7 November 2006. It was about Thorn St. Croix, a neomage who lived in the post-apocalyptic years, when the world was not yet destroyed as expected.
Hunter created a near-future world, an ice age with seraphs or theocrats as rulers. This government, however, caused an unending fight between the seraphs and the demons and the people were caught up in the battles.
A neomage is like a human being but had powers to subdue the will of others. People and seraphs considered them a threat to their existence and confined them in the Enclave. They lived there, without meddling on people’s affairs and vice versa.
Thorn was terrified of her powers and escaped from the Enclave. She married the adulterous Lucas Stanhope and associated herself with humans. Her nature remained concealed, though, lest the people or the seraphs kill her. Acting as an ordinary human, she established a business called “Thorn's Gems” in Mineral Springs, California, with her partners Rupert and Jaycee.
Time passed by, until one day, a police officer, Thaddeus Bartholomew, came to her to inform her that her ex-husband was kidnapped and they were suspecting her of the crime.
Her mage-heat was stirred when she saw Bartholomew. She realised that he is a descendant of a seraph and has both human and mage personality. The police seemed unconscious of this, though.
Thorn is determined to save the father of her stepdaughter Ciana, however, her life would be at risk.
