Bob: Agent of Hydra
Name of Character: Bob: Agent of Hydra
First known appearance: Cable & Deadpool #38
Bob is a mercenary who lives a normal life until he made a contract with Hydra thinking that he would greatly benefit from the agreement. Bob’s work is to blog different information for Hydra. When Deadpool was sent to rescue Agent X, he came across Bob and eventually rescued the man from the evil Hydra.
Before that, Deadpool came as a three inch sized mercenary. He became small due to his exposure to the Pym particles, the same particles that allowed Ant-Man to become small. Bob went down to the battle scene when he knew of the conflict going on outside. However, he tripped over Deadpool. He was then asked by Wade to get Deadpool and bring him to the place where Agent X was also imprisoned. Thinking that the tiny hero could not hurt him in any manner, Bob diligently responded to the order. However, he was totally wrong. While they are on their way, Deadpool hurt Bob using the ID card reel as string to shot Bob’s head. He did this twice because he felt fun doing it. After this, Bob decided to introduce himself to Deadpool. The tiny mercenary did not find it hard to recognise him because he knew of his blogs.
When they reached the location of Agent X, the three of them decided to flee from Hydra. They stole the villain’s plane and successfully managed to get away. Bob was asked to pilot the plane and later on, he joined the two in the Agency X.
Bob, while at the Agency X’s custody, was regarded as Wade (Deadpool) and the others’ pet or a little friend. Though Bob was glad meeting the members of the agency, he was not so happy about Deadpool because of the incident that happened between them. Bob still believes that he was kidnapped from Hydra while Deadpool attests that this kidnapping means freedom and liberation.
Some time after, Wade’s friend, Weasel, was captured by HYDRA. Wolverine, during this time, has plans of attacking Hydra. Covered with fear that Wolverine might kill Weasel, Deadpool took action and tagged along Bob with him making an insurance agreement between them. Unknown to Bob, Deadpool has the plan to exchange Bob for Weasel if necessary, but of course, he never revealed this to Bob. Fortunately, they were able to rescue Weasel without doing Deadpool’s plan.
Later on, Bob and Deadpool became partners in crime, which was also brought by their insurance policy agreement. They faced different endeavours, which include the battle with Brother Voodoo and the conflict within the agency.
Eventually, Bob, together with Weasel and Deadpool, decided to go to New York and save the city from being ravaged by the dinosaurs. Bob, who does not have any powers, hid but one dinosaur found him and took him away. Then the dinosaur tripped over an electric billboard and because of electric shock, it died therefore freeing Bob. The reporters then rushed to Bob and asked if Bob is a hero upon noticing the letter H imprinted in his shirt. Bob, being overwhelmed with the possible popularity, affirmed the idea telling the people that he is indeed a hero.
After the news of Bob’s heroic identity was reported, his wife immediately contacted him and told him that he looked cool on the television. He was later on seen with Deadpool continuing the agreement they had on each other.
Bob, if looked at every angle, is normal in every way possible. He does not possess any super human strength; in fact, his strength could be regarded as below average or simply average. His agility, intelligence, as well as durability were also relatively low. During the series, Bob could be seen wearing his shirt with a letter H imprinted on it, which originally stands for Hydra. However, after the incident in the savage land with the dinosaur, the H became a symbol for hero. That day also, Bob became a hero by name.
Though he could be seen as a weak guy, Bob has abilities and knowledge that became helpful in his endeavours together with Deadpool. He learned different tactics about retreating a battle, surrendering and hiding when he was at Hydra’s place. Though this may sound funny to most readers, it is no doubt that these abilities kept Bob alive from all the battles he had when he was with Deadpool.
Bob is just an ordinary guy. He has no powers with him at all. All he can do is to escape and hide, but by siding with the good ones, he became a hero and he was glad for that fact.
